Bear Beach: Alternative Access
South Island / Port Renfrew
90 min driving from Downtown Vicotria
This hike takes about one hour round-trip (depending on weather) and is an alternative way to get to Bear Beach if hikers do not want to take the 9 km hike from China Beach. Please be mindful it is through private land, be respectful.
To get onto the trail, hikers can find the yellow gate on an old road (just west of Rosemond Creek) and follow this until eventually taking a well worn off trail leading to the right. This point is about 5 minutes in and will be marked with flagging tape.
The beginning of the trail is an easy flat walk but the second half gets much steeper. If it has been raining the path will likely be muddy and slippery. Once hikers get down to the bottom, out by the creek, there will be camping on either side just in the tree line. Stay and enjoy some wildlife viewing and swimming on the hot summer days.
